Chyhyryn

Our rating: 6.40
Overall rating:

Chyhyryn is a small town in the Cherkassy Region, famous for the residence of Bogdan Khmelnytsky, a prominent Ukrainian Hetman (military commander). For many years Chyhyryn was the capital of Hetman state, so all main attractions of the town are devoted to this part of history.

In the middle of the town you can find the Zamkova (Castle) Hill, on the top of which stands a monument to Bogdan Khmelnytsky.

On the top of the hill you can also find a reconstructed bastion of Petro Doroshenko, another Ukrainian political and military leader. This bastion belonged to the Chyhyryn Fortress in the XVII century. There is also a beautiful park on the hill, with huge boulders resembling those in Uman :)

During our visit in 2008 there was a reconstruction of the Hetman residence under the hill. Now, as far as we know from Wikipedia, it has already been completed.

Getting there: There are direct buses from the central bus station in Kyiv, but they don't go very often so it's better to clarify and book seats in advance. The second option is to go through Cherkassy. You can get both by bus and by train from Kyiv to Cherkassy. Buses go to Chyhyryn from the central station in Cherkassy. We took a direct bus from Kaniv and returned back by 2 minibuses via Cherkassy.

Реконструкция действительно уже закончена, территория очень красивая, цель данной реконструкции - отобразить условия проживания гетьмана Украины
