Frankfurt am Main is the largest city of the Hessen land. It's the financial and transportation center of Germany and the largest financial center in continental Europe. The city very much stands out from other German cities. It's more like an American city with giant skyscrapers in the dowtown.

Frankfurt is the only city in Germany that was included in the rating of the first twenty alpha cities in the world that are considered an important element of global economic system. In Frankfurt, everything is very huge: the biggest German airport and railway station as well as six tallest skyscrapers in Germany. Frankfurt Stock Exchange is the second largest in Europe after London, and the Auto Show is the biggest event of the automobile world.

One of the main attractions of Frankfurt is the house of the German poet Goethe (23 Großer Hirschgraben). Here he wrote some of his greatest works and began work on Faust. The house was carefully restored, some objects inside belong to the Goethe family. There's a Goethe museum near the house.

As a result of air raids during the Second World War, the historic district Römer (Roman) was destroyed. Only several buildings were restored, and we can say that Frankfurt has no old city. Nonetheless, the central Römer Square is very beautiful, with recovered half-timbered houses of XV-XVIII centuries. The square received its name from one of the buildings where Italian merchants used to stay for the night.

City Hall is located on the square and has three Gothic facades. The facade is decorated with statues of the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, Charles IV, Maximilian II and Ludwig II. In the center of the square stands a statue of the goddess of justice - one of Frankfurt's symbols.

But the real symbols of the city and its hallmark are skyscrapers. We made this picture at this point. You can also take pictures from the bridges, but the waterfront offers a better view. By the way, we found the best point in advance using Google Earth. In many cities there are large 3D models of buildings and you just have to choose the right angle.

There's an observation deck on the main tower (round building with a red spire) at the height of the 54th floor. All high-altitude photographs in this article were made from that point. When you walk through the park to the tower, look at the bushes, there's a lot of rabbits inside. There are many of them on the waterfront as well, but they appear only at twilight.

You can download Frankfurt city tour in PDF format here.

There is one more observation deck on the top of the building in the form of a pencil.

And one more interesting place in Frankfurt. Look for nutria in Brentanopark (U-Bahn station - Fischstein). Do not forget a carrot or buy on the spot in the supermarket.
