Our rating: 8.40
Overall rating:
Geirangerfjord, which has a length of 15 kilometers, is the most beautiful fjord in Norway. In 2005, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The main thing that interests the tourists who visit Geirangerfjord is a boat trip. There is only one route (map): Geiranger - Hellesylt (info). Before there was another route Valldal - Geiranger, but it was closed, may be temporarily.

The fjord is often visited by huge cruise ships.

There are several observation decks around the fjord, which have been reconstructed in 2006 by the National Tourist Roads project:

1. Eagle Road (Ørnesvingen, map) - this observation deck offers the panoramas of the fjord, the Seven Sisters waterfall and the Knivsflo alpine farm.

2. Flydalsjuvet (map) - an observation deck above the town of Geiranger, which offers the best views of the Geirangerfjord.

3. Mount Dalsnibba (separate article) - is higher and farther than the Flydalsjuvet observation deck. It also offers the view of the Geirangerfjord and other beautiful places.

There are several options to explore the fjord:
 - Kayaking
 - Hard inflatable boats

There are many well-marked hiking trails around the fjord. You can find info about the routes here (booklet ) and here. You can take detailed maps of the routes at the tourist information offices in the towns around the fjord, their addresses are here.

There's also an opportunity to go to the observation decks and Mount Dalsnibba by tour buses. The prices, of course, are high, but if you are interested, the information is here and here.

Getting there: The detailed information can be found at the official tourist website of Norway.
