Monastery and Hotel San Salvador (Majorca)

The monastery of San Salvador is located in a picturesque place on a hill 500 meters high. This is the most sacred place on the island and one of the places that we especially liked in Mallorca.

Monks lived here until 1992 and now the Petit Hotel Hostatgeria Sant Salvador (booking.com) is located in the monastery. If you are traveling by car we strongly recommend to come here for one night. The hotel is budget, you will live in monastery cell, there are options with dinner and breakfast.


The beauty occurs in the morning and in the evening. Though sunset we almost missed.


We watched it near a large cross. Since the monastery is located in the flat terrain, from above you can see absolutely the whole island, this is quite unusual. For example, in the next photo you can see Cape Formentor, which is 56 kilometers away!

You can walk uphill from the nearest town Felanitx, a distance is about 7.5 km.


Getting there: A narrow road, 5 km long, leads to the monastery. There is parking lot uphill N 39 27.285 E 3 11.282. During summer be aware of big busses on the road during the day. Felanitx can be reached from Palma by bus 490 (timetable and map) or 491 (timetable and map).
