Mdina is the first capital of Malta, founded 4000 years ago, popular tourist destination. The heyday of the city goes back to the period of Roman rule. At some point in history (it is believed that during the reign of the Arabs) town of Rabat  appeared nearby, which later has grown enormously and the Mdina remained the city for nobility. Even now, most of the palaces (palazzo) in Mdina still belong to the aristocratic families of Malta, some can be visited.

Despite the fact that Malta was not captured only by lazy warriors, Mdina has managed to keep its original appearance. This open-air museum is located on the quite a small area and is convenient to visit.
