We spent the night in Singsaker Sommerhotell (booking.com), it is located on the hill near the fortress. This is a student dorm, which works as a hotel in summer months and is managed by students. The toilet is shared, but for one night it is the good budget option.
The walk around the city started from Kristiansten fortress (1681-1685), which offers picturesque views of the city. You can enter the territory freely.
The main cultural attraction of the city is the huge Nidaros Cathedral (1070).
It is the most important cathedral in the country; coronations of the Norwegian kings are held here. Entrance to the cathedral is paid (9 EUR).
After the fortress we went down. On the way do not miss the interesting construction that we have not met in other places. This is a lift for cyclists.
Next is the Old Bridge (1681). Until 1816 it was the only way to the city.
The bridge offers beautiful views of the architectural complex along the river Nidelva. Norway is a paradise for lovers of colorful historic houses.
Then we walked along the following route.
Trondheim can be considered a real architectural gem. There is a huge number of houses from different eras and almost all of them are in excellent condition.
Trondheim, by the way, is located at the latitude of Arkhangelsk and Reykjavik.
The area of the former dry docks that belonged to a large shipbuilding company, was bought in the 1990s by the Aker concern and rebuilt into residential neighborhoods and public spaces. As you can guess from the name of the concern, the same company built the famous Oslo district Aker Brygge - the most visited place in Norway.
Such places are always interesting because they allow the architect to do everything he wants as the whole district of the city is being rebuilt.
Now the area is called Nedre Elvehavn. Although older residents still call it TMV, after the name of the former shipyard.
Here we had a dinner in the restaurant Egon (N 63 26.081 E 10 24.696). Standard youth restaurant with burgers, not budget.
Sea promenade.
A lot of objects have orange color. Probably the new color of the city.
An interesting installation, allows you to hear the "sounds of the sea."
This photo was taken from the observation deck, which was specially built for lovers of movable bridges.
Here was a huge indoor sports complex, but it was demolished and a modern stadium is being built, almost in the very center of the city. There is also another stadium, used by the famous football club Rosenborg.
Getting there: There is an airport (TRD). The most convenient way from the airport to the city is by bus Flybussen (~ 12 EUR), as it passes all the major hotels. The train is much cheaper (~ 7 EUR), but it runs only once per hour. The station is located near the Radisson hotel (you have to exit from the airport). From Oslo it is more convenient to travel by train (https://www.nsb.no/en/frontpage), though there are also buses (https://www.nor-way.no/en-US).
